Obituary

Linda Ann Lenar, age 78, of Caseville, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025, in Essexville, MI. Born on January 15, 1946, in Lansing, Michigan, to Lamont and Sarah (McCullough) Patterson, Linda's life was marked by faith and service. She met her husband, Daniel Lenar, at a religious convention for Jehovah's Witnesses. They married on May 4, 1968, and shared 56 cherished years together.

Following their marriage, Dan and Linda moved to Bad Axe, Michigan, to serve the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and eventually planned to engage in foreign missionary service. After the birth of their first child, however, they decided to settle in Caseville, Michigan, where both continued to share Bible-based comfort with others. Linda's passion for education led to a 30-year career as a high school and college-level teacher of advanced mathematics and sciences. Educational institutions she taught at included Caseville Public School, Harbor Beach High School, and Mid Michigan College. Driven to integrate environmental awareness into her teaching, she traveled extensively (Finland, San Diego, Washington D.C., Chicago, etc.) to develop innovative and field-based teaching methods. Beyond her professional life, Linda cherished the outdoors, finding joy in gardening, swimming, diving, cycling, and skiing.

Linda is survived by her beloved children, Lamont Lenar, Nathan Lenar, and Danielle Lenar; brother, Randy Patterson; brother-in-law, Greg Lenar (Donna, deceased); extended family, Susan Lenar (Joel, deceased), Courtney Zimmer (Phil, deceased), Jeremy Lenar, Timothy Atkinson (Lisa), Daniel Atkinson (deceased), Leah Dzierzawski (Steve), Jason Atkinson (Cherie), and Sabita Lenar; along with many other family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Lenar, and her parents.

Honoring Linda's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 25, at 3:00 pm (EST), Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1203 N. Niagara, Saginaw, MI. To attend virtually, the Zoom meeting ID is 821 7442 2275 (passcode: Central20). I am sad to learn of Linda’s passing. I have known the Lenar family for many years mostly because of my association with the Patterson family. We all look forward to the future new world when we will see our loved ones again. Vickie Lewis (Hamilton)

Linda, took a physics class from me at SVSU to improve her knowledge. She worked with John West and me on a project to improve high school science curriculum which was responsible for her trip to San Diego. Later she helped organize science teaching workshops in the thumb which John and I led. Linda was an excellent science teacher and worked very hard to improve the teaching of science. She will be missed.

My prayers and condolences to Linda’s children, and to her extended family. I taught with Linda for several years at Harbor Beach. . We retired together in 2010. Linda was an excellent teacher, and an advocate for her students. Students knew that Linda wasn’t giving an answer away, but would work with the students to learn and use the steps to solve the question. Linda was also an advocate for her fellow educators at Harbor Beach. I’m grateful to Linda for her support for students and educators at Harbor Beach.
