Obituary
Rodney “Rod” Corwin Shoemaker, age 72, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He was born on June 12, 1948 to Richard and Beverly Shoemaker in Alma, Michigan.
Rod was a graduate of Alma College and eventually Princeton Seminary in New Jersey. He served as a Presbyterian minister in Charlotte, North Carolina, Cincinnati, Ohio, and finally back home in Alma, Michigan. While living in Alma again, Rod obtained a doctorate degree in psychology from Michigan State University and eventually opened his own psychology practice in Saginaw. Rod had many pastimes, but he particularly enjoyed buying and selling automobiles, collecting antique clocks found at the estate sales to which he loved going, and reading. Rod was a faithful person, most recently attending St. John's Episcopal Church in Saginaw.
Rod is survived by his father, Richard Shoemaker; his brother, Mike (Linda) Shoemaker; and nephews, Peter (Roslyn) Shoemaker and Joseph (Sarah) Shoemaker. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Shoemaker.
Cremation has taken place and a private interment service will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Alma, Michigan.

I went to Alma High School with Rod and he was such a funny, caring and sincere person. I was hoping to be able to see him at our high school reunion this year but it wasn't meant to be. I will miss your wit and kindness.

Rod was my patient, Rod was my friend. I enjoyed playing Euchre, listening to him share his memories of San Francisco and just spending time with him. I only knew him for a short time, but I will miss him forever. RIP my friend.

I never met my cousin but I have had conversations with his father and my uncle, Richard for many years. My mother, Mary (Shoemaker) Turner was the oldest child of John and Amanda (Porter) Shoemaker.
My sympathies to this man's family. We are promised that God shall wipe away all tears.

Rod was our neighbor and dear friend. He was family to Meme and I and will be greatly missed. We are very sad and our hearts are heavy to hear of his passing. God Bless you Rod we love you very much!! Our deepest sympathy and our condolences to the family.
