Melodye Adomaitis
May 06, 1945 - September 29, 2026
Obituary
Melodye Anne (nee Schwartz) Adomaitis, age 81, died September 29, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida. Melodye was surrounded by family when she broke free of disease and into the arms of her loving Savior, and onto the arm of her waiting beloved, Dennis R. Adomaitis.
Melodye was born in Rochester, New York on May 6, 1945; the eldest child of Donald Edward Schwartz and Vivienne Houle’ Schwartz. The family eventually moved to the Grand Rapids area in Michigan, where Melodye graduated from Catholic Central High School.
Melodye and Dennis were married on June 27, 1969, and shortly thereafter moved to Saginaw, where Dennis accepted a teaching position. When their passionate (rabid) love of antiques and vintage clothing outgrew their home, they opened Adomaitis Antiques which was a fixture in Old Town Saginaw for more than 50 years. It was THE place to go for costumes and vintage treasures. They traveled extensively, even operating a travel company that chartered memorable trips in the US, China, Russia, Australia, and Europe (which were really just thinly disguised, elaborate shopping excursions.) After Dennis died in 2016, Melodye kept the shop open until the Spring of 2025, when her decline from Alzheimer’s was no longer deniable. In early August of 2025, dear family from Florida came to take her back with them, where she lived and was lovingly cared for by her niece, Mindy Chickering, and her partner, Jim Wireman.
Melodye leaves behind her siblings, Robert (and Jayne) Schwartz, Richard L. Schwartz, Melinda (and Michael) D’Angelo, and Karl (and Daisy) Schwartz, as well as cherished nieces and nephews Mindy (Schwartz) Chickering, Daria, Lauren and Mario D’Angelo, Jennifer, Danielle, Brandon, and Preston Schwartz. In addition, she will be missed by friends, Bob and Kathy Vitu, Rea and Dave Corcoran, Ruth Berkobien, Bob Lewis, and Ann Russell-Lutenske. She was predeceased by her parents and her adored Grandmother, Violet Hodges. When the gates of heaven open to her, Melodye will also be greeted by a small pack of overjoyed Cairn terriers whom she has been missing for a long time.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Cornerstone Hospice in Lakeland, Florida.
Friends and family will gather to remember and celebrate Melodye on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m., at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 North Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48602. Pastoral Associate Sharon Wahl will officiate.
