Obituary
Essmann, David H.Freeland, Michigan David Harold Essmann was on born March 21, 1958, in Lusaka, Zambia, Africa where his father was a Lutheran missionary. He grew up in Wisconsin, and then moved to Michigan to begin his exceptional career in education, first in the Lutheran school system, then in the public schools. Dave loved his family and his job; he devoted his life to educating, loving and supporting those who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Dave is survived by his parents, Pastor Harold and Ruth Essmann; his beloved daughters, Amy (Bill) Pavlakos and Jillian (Keith) Huot; the love of his life for twelve years, his wife, Sue Essmann; sisters, Rhoda (Pastor Dennis) Belter and Michele (Reginald) Pfeifer; nieces and nephews, Pastor Jeremy (Kelsey) Belter, Nicole Belter, Zachary Belter, Kirsten Pfeifer, Emily Pfeifer, Kelly Reinhardt and Sarah Reinhardt; brother and sister-in-law Dave and Wendy Reinhardt; his best friends, Meri and Dave Symons; as well as several aunts and uncles.Funeral service will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 612 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Friends are welcome to visit with the family Monday evening from 4:00pm-7:00 p.m. at the McIntyre Funeral Chapel, 500 N. Michigan Ave. and at the church on Tuesday from 10am until service. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that everyone who has been touched by Dave Essmann continue his legacy by performing a random act of kindness for a stranger. My son Marcial goes to Haven's. I have not been able to tell Marcial the trouble news. He will be so upset. David was a great person. He was always there for my son. When he need a little push every now and then. He will be so greatly missed.

Mr. Essmann, you were such a great guy who was universally respected by your students, staff, and peers. I learned so much from you in the short time I knew you. I cannot imagine walking into H1avens and not seeing you there. Rest in peace my friend. I will miss you always.

Dave's dedication to his work and the students in his care was exemplary. I am very impressed with the lengths he was willing to go to challenge, motivate, and inspire the students at Havens. You could tell he loved his job and didn't just look at it as a job, but a vocation. He will be remembered fondly for a long time.
