Guy Richard McNeil

McNeil, Guy R. “Dick”Carrollton, MichiganPassed away on November 5, 2012 at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center where he was treated with such honor and respect and the entire staff is to be saluted for their care. Dick was born July 30, 1935 the son of George J. and Opal Mott McNeil. On July 6, 1957 Dick married Shirley Millie in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Coraopolis, PA. They made their home in Saginaw until Dick received his “greetings from the President of the United States”. Shirley then returned home to Coraopolis, PA while Dick served in the Army for the next two years. He spent 19 weeks at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and was then shipped to Korea where he served with Company C, 1st Cavalry Division on the DMZ. He served under Sgt. Mills who praised him for being the best radioman he ever had while serving 24 years in the Army. After 13 months in Korea, Dick was assigned to Ft. Lewis, Washington where he finished his two years in the Army. He was then reunited with his wife, Shirley, and they returned to Saginaw. Their marriage was blessed with two “special sons”, Richard and Mark. Dick served as a Cubscout leader and Scoutmaster of mentally handicapped Cubscout Pack 3247 and Scout Troop 247. He was also a member of the VFW Post 2622 of Buena Vista Township. Dick retired from Sears as a receiving manager on Feb. 2, 1996 with almost 43 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel for over 20 years until its closing and has been a member of SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church since its formation. Surviving besides his sons Richard and Mark are a very special niece and her husband Cindy and Dennis Guzy of St. Charles, brother William (Karen) McNeil of Freeland, sisters; Mary (Chuck) Henning of Zilwaukee and Nina (Ron) Kwater of Saginaw and a brother Jim of San Antonio, TX. Dick has gone to Heaven to be reunited with his loving wife, Shirley, of 54 years; his parents George and Opal, brothers Larry, Danny, and his sister Florence (Cooky). A private funeral service was held with his immediate family and entombment followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery of Saginaw.
