Obituary

Dorothy L. Baldwin of Saginaw, formerly of Bay City, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016 following a brief illness. Dorothy was born in Beaverton, MI; the daughter of Vernon and Josie Mercer. The statuesque Dorothy was an exceptional high school women's basketball player. She later attended Central Michigan University, prior to becoming a government inspector of food processing plants during World War II. She met her future husband, Roy L. Baldwin when both were employees of Dow Chemical Company in Midland, MI. They eloped and married on August 30, 1947. Her hobbies included bowling and her team won city championships in Bay City in the 1950's. Dorothy worked for a number of years at Merchandise Center in Bay City and after retiring was able to combine her love of chocolate and nuts as a part time employee at St. Laurent's Brothers in Bay City. After moving to Riverwalk Meadows in Bay City she worked as a leasing agent and then as the resident manager for a number of years. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles, but most of all she loved her family.Dorothy is survived by her children, Linda Baldwin (dear friend, Dick Van Epps) and Rick (Andrea) Baldwin; her step-son, Gordon (Erika) Baldwin; grandchildren, James (Melissa Lee) Volz, Melanie (Ed) Sekel, Carrie Baldwin (significant other, Matt Oates), Elizabeth Baldwin, Kyle Baldwin, and Christopher Baldwin; great grandchildren, Ethan Volz, Olivia Sekel, Dominic Green, and Isabelle Gomez; sister, Coralie Cassiday; brother, Jim (Shirley) Mercer; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law Marsha Repkie (Louie). Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; and her siblings, Bill Mercer, Betty Sutherland, Dola Kleinhardt, Mary Ellen Brown, and Barbara Sharp.Visitation will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Interment will be held privately at Floral Gardens Cemetery and Mausoleum, Bay City, MI.Memorials in Dorothy's name may be made to Cartwright Hospice Residence, 3443 Hospital Road, Saginaw, MI 48603 or to the charity of your choice.
