William Millar

William “Bill” L. Millar, age 79, passed away, Wednesday March 29, 2017, peacefully in his home with his family by his side.

Bill was born and raised in Lansing, MI to Charles and Pamelia Millar. He attended MSU School of Criminal Justice, drum majored the MSU band, and graduated 1958. Upon graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Parks. They were later blessed with three children.

After working as an insurance liability claim investigator in Toledo, OH, he was transferred to Saginaw. He later took a position working in the trucking industry as a Director of Safety, Insurance, and Personnel for Saginaw Transfer Co., then Great Lakes Express, and lastly, Central Transport Co. In 1978, Bill resigned and fulfilled his dream of operating his own business. He started a dry-cleaning business in Bridgeport, named Bridgeport Drycleaners. Then in 1988, after adding sites in Frankenmuth and Saginaw, the business became known as Quality Drycleaners. In 1991, Bill and his son Bill Jr. merged their two separate businesses, and formed Uniserv Inc. Following heart surgery in 1999, Bill retired from active participation in the business.

Bill was active in the Saginaw Choral Society, The Saginaw County Business and Education Partnership, National Federation of Independent Businesses Board of Directors, The Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Michigan, and participated in many other community organizations and activities until moving to northern Gladwin County in 2006, in an effort to “retire from retirement”.

Bill's favorite pastimes included gardening and music. But nothing could surpass his interest in the Spartans, always professing “I bleed green”. He was a man of great faith with two Episcopal church families: St, John's in Saginaw, and St. Paul's in Gladwin.
He and his wife Judy returned to Freeland, MI in July 2014 to live closer to family.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; three loving children, Todd (Linda) Millar, Wendy (Mohammed) Moursi and William A. (Lisa) Millar; six cherished grandchildren, Caitlin (Jake) Nydegger, Jacob Millar, Billy Millar (Lindsey Plummer), Anna (Aaron) Hill, Nasreen and Ashraf Moursi. Also surviving are his brother, Chuck (Sue) Millar; sister-in-law, Susie Bross; several nephews, nieces, and his cats Mitts and Angel.

Visitation will take place Friday, March 31, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw, MI 48602. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 1, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 123 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw, MI 48602.
