Obituary

Thomas P. Moffett, age 91, of Saginaw, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2017, in Saginaw.

The son of William and Matilda Moffett, Thomas was born on April 15, 1926, in Saginaw, Michigan.

Thomas was proud to serve the US Army Air Force during World War 2, where he met his beloved wife, Ernestine “Anna” Jezek. After an overseas courtship, Tom was able to bring Anna here to the United States and live a life of love with four children and many grandchildren. Tom worked hard as a master electrician, belonging to the IBEW for 55 years, where he helped put his stamp on Saginaw. He helped in the building of Douglas MacArthur High School, Eisenhower High School, and many other landmarks in Saginaw. Later in life he could be seen playing with his grandchildren at Berberovich Park, singing karaoke at the American Legion, or walking his many dogs. But the thing he loved and was most proud of was taking care of his family.

Thomas is survived by his loving son, Donald P. (Karen Hoefling) Moffett; grandchildren, Stacey (David) Egerer, Angela (Jason) Rychel, Jennifer (David) Fries, Sarah Jeffrey, Aaron Moffett, Cam Moffett, and Callie Moffett; great-grandchildren, Anna and Gracie Egerer; Tyler, Zachary, and Tanner Rychel; Madison and Anthony Fries; and Erica Jeffrey. Thomas is also survived by his dear friend, Lori VanOchten; a daughter-in-law, Sue Moffett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Moffett; children, Thomas Moffett, Terri Blakely, and Jon Moffett; siblings, Bill Moffett, Donald Moffett, Daisy Turner, Evelyn Husen, Blanche Baranic, Richard Moffett, and Roy Moffett.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, December 19, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Military Honors Service at 6:00p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602.

Uncle Tom, You were one of the most genuine, coolest guys I have ever known. A true gentleman. Your stories were legendary. Especially the one about how you met Anna and brought her home to be your wife. My husband and I could have sat and listened to you talk all day long. He had just met you and told me how neat he thought you were. You were so kind and helped my Grandma in ways she never forgot. For a man that experienced so much loss in life, you handled it with grace. Many of us have learned a great deal from you; I know I have. You are now reunited with much of your family. Rest easy Uncle Tom, you deserve it.

What an amazing Uncle. You will be missed Uncle Tom. Some of my greatest memories of growing up have you sitting front and center in our kitchen being an amazing brother to my grandma. You leave behind such a wonderful legacy full of family, friends and entertaining memories. Love you. Pam (Turner) Land

Love this picture of Uncle Tom....such a handsome man! This family lost another one of the good guys and he will be sorely missed! I personally watched him take care of my Grandma (his sister Ep) with patience and unending love and dedication. He teased my oldest daughter about alligators being in my Grandma's garden-something she still remembers and when I saw him last year, HE remembered too! It was a sweet moment! I can't help but think about all the family he is now reunited with and how long he waited to do so. Rest easy Uncle Tom, kiss my Grandma for me! xoxox Stacie Husen Kain
