Obituary
Douglas Alan Nelson - UEL, age 65, of Au Gres, Michigan, passed away on July 4, 2019.
The son of Melvin and Margaret Nelson, Douglas was born on July 8, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan.
In his earlier years, Doug at age 14 won a local art contest; as a part of his coffer, his painting hung in the Museum of Contemporary Art at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
In 1974, Doug entered an apprenticeship program through the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 80 completing the legacy of his father, uncles and grandfather. In 1979, he achieved Journeyman status and was active in the trade for 36 years until his retirement in 2010 as a “Tin Knocker”.
In his personal life, Doug held a special passion for sailing and anything sea related as he aspired to spend out his days sailing the Caribbean, painting and Metal Working. “Go Wings” Doug was an avid hockey fan from NHL to OHL (Saginaw Spirit) he loved watching hockey. With everything he approached, he added his “joie de vivre” especially within his family life, he was always committed to the ideology of the family unit, and however it manifested itself.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Carole Nelson; his father; Melvin Nelson, his son, Jeremy (Rene) Nelson; step daughter, Candi Cain; grandchildren, Jessica Nelson, Chelsea (Richard) McAlpine, Gabrielle Nelson, and Morgen Nelson; step grandchildren, Buddy Cain, Justin Cain, Amber Cain, Danny Bursler and Austin Bursler(Opie); step daughter in law, Brenda Cain; great grandchildren, Leo Cain, Lucy Cain and Ricky McAlpine; siblings, Ron (Annette) Nelson, Bill (Eleanor) Nelson, Dennis (Barb) Nelson, Sharon Nelson (Jim), Nancy (Al) Lazarus ; god son, Jason Allen Campbell; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His mother, Margaret Nelson; brother, Davey Nelson; and his stepson, Gilbert (Gil) Cain, preceded Douglas in death.
