Obituary
Alice Marie Vander Mel, age 93, of Saginaw, formerly of Muskegon, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, January 27, 2020.
She was born on July 13, 1926 to Thomas and Ethel Pedler, in Muskegon, MI.
After graduating from Muskegon Heights High School in 1944, she met and married Harry Vander Mel, August 9, 1947. They attended Lakeside Baptist Church and later joined Mona Shores Baptist Church. She was active in the Parent Teacher Association when her children were in school. She was also active in Girl Scouts of America. She worked for General Telephone and Electronics for 25 years, first as a Telephone Operator and later in the Repair Division. Harry and Alice were married 59 years.
Alice is survived by her children, Tom Vander Mel and Julie (Stephen) Tack; grandchildren, Stephanie (Eric-Scott) Fisher and Christopher S. (Malissa) Tack; great-grandchildren, Rosalie Fisher, Solaris Tack, and Leyla Tack; godson, Julius Woo; and many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Harry John Vander Mel; her parents; and her siblings, Herbert Pedler, Winifred Lund, William “Bill” Pedler, Lloyd G. Pedler, Elf Pedler, Jack Pedler, Robert Thomas Pedler, and Elizabeth Ann Pedler.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 1, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Pastor Andy Husmann will officiate. Alice will be laid to rest with her husband at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Muskegon, Michigan, at a later date.
