Errol Burton
May 07, 1939 - June 22, 2025
Obituary
Errol “Burt” G. Burton, age 86, of Saginaw, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Optalis Health and Rehab at St. Francis Home in Thomas Township. He was born on May 7, 1939, to George H. and Edna (nee Lozier) Burton in Geraldton, Ontario, Canada. Errol married Patricia Falkenberg on May 21, 1960, in Saginaw and they shared 65 years together.
Errol worked as a firefighter for nearly 30 years, retiring as a Battalion Chief for the City of Saginaw; work that he thoroughly enjoyed. He felt a great sense of accomplishment in creating Saginaw's first Fire Safety House, designed to show children how to find their way out of a burning house. He tirelessly worked to secure donations from the Saginaw community to ultimately have all costs for the project covered. All of that work was done because a little girl did not survive a house fire, asking, “Help me.”
Errol was a talented artist creating many stained-glass works of art, several on display still at the Saginaw City Hall and Saginaw Township Hall to name a few. He donated many hours working on large window for the Carousel Project at the Saginaw Children's Zoo. He was also a gifted photographer, focusing on weddings for many years in the Saginaw area. Other hobbies he enjoyed include woodcarving, scuba diving and remote-controlled aircraft.
Errol is survived by his wife, Patricia Burton; children, DaAnna (Gary) Benjamin, Deborah Burton (Mike) Kerscher, and Michael (Linda) Burton; five grandsons; Eric and Marc Benjamin, and Noah, Ethan, and Joseph Burton; four great granddaughters, Vivienne, Scarlett, Nora, and Marlow Benjamin; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Marlene) Falkenberg and Patrick (Susan) LaFleche; many nieces and nephews and several firefighter friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, David and Brock Burton.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Services will be directed by Bill Howard. Cremation will follow and a private interment will be held at Oakwood Mausoleum, Saginaw, Michigan.
Donations in honor of Errol may be made to the Carousel Project at the Saginaw Children's Zoo or to a charity of one's choice.
