Obituary
Joseph Nicholas Butera, age 98, of Saginaw, passed away Monday, June 23, 2025, at Optalis Nursing and Rehab at St. Francis Home in Thomas Township, Michigan.
He was born on August 27, 1926, to John and Angelina (Vescio) Butera in Conflenti, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy.
He worked at Abbott Foods in Flint, Michigan from 1954 until 1958. He then started working for the family grocery business, Vescio's Supermarkets in Saginaw, where he worked his way up to the position of Vice President. He later sold real estate for Coldwell Banker in the late 1980's until he fully retired. While in retirement he enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Crooked Lake in Lake Station, Michigan. He also loved visiting with friends, barbeques with family, and spending time on the water.
Joe is survived by his son, Joseph B. Butera; several nieces, nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Louie Butera and Mario Butera; sisters, Pievina Butera Cimino, and Elivra Butera Bull; and their parents.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 10:00 a.m., until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavitt will officiate. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Saginaw.
