Obituary
Mary L. Clayton, age 91, of Saginaw, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2020. The daughter of Jeremiah and Helen (Wichlacz) Salget, Mary was born August 17, 1928, in Saginaw, Michigan. She married John R. “Jack” Clayton II on June 12, 1948. He preceded her in death on November 29, 1997.
Mary was a longtime member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. She was active in the Altar Society and Active Seniors. She worked sales at Sears for 20 years. When Mary retired, she and Jack took many senior bus trips with friends and even made it to Hawaii. Mary absolutely loved going to garage sales with her daughters, grand-daughters and her sister, Dorothy. Her ability to find the best treasures helped furnish and decorate many of her grandkids' dorm rooms and apartments. Family gatherings made Mary the happiest and she always enjoyed the family togetherness.
Mary is survived by her children, Michael (Janet) Clayton, Karen Clayton, Connie Cunningham, Colleen (Paul) Southwell, and Paul (Toni) Clayton; grandchildren, Steven (Raquel) Clayton, Scott (Jessica) Clayton, Laurie Clayton, Tyler Johnson, Angela (Jon) Rice, Adam White, Aaron White, Justin White, Jordan White, Jason (Lisa) White, Ryan (Savannah) Southwell, Bradley (Jennifer) Southwell, Austin Southwell, Jessica (Alex) Ancinec and Jenna Clayton; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Samantha, Isabella, Jonny, Allie, Trevor, Addison, Brady, Jaxon, Ethan, Christopher, Liam and Weston; sister, Dorothy Magnus; sisters-in-law, Jean Salget and Esther Cline; son-in-law, Blake Johnson; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Clayton; daughters, Cathryn Johnson and Christine White; granddaughter, Kristen Johnson; parents, Jeremiah and Helen Salget; brothers, Jerry Salget and Frank Salget; sister, Helen Salget; son-in-law, Dan Cunningham.
Visitation will take place Thursday, June 18, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until time Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Helen Catholic Church Site of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, 2445 N. Charles St., Saginaw, MI 48602. Rev. Fr. Ronald Wagner will officiate. Please be mindful of safe distancing and the church's request for all attendees to wear masks. Burial will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Saginaw.
