Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis Jay “DJ” Jones of Saginaw, MI, on Thursday, July 10th, 2025, four days after celebrating his 80th birthday. He was surrounded by love, warmth, and the deep affection he so freely gave to others throughout his life.
DJ was born on July 6th, 1945, in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Rahl Robson and Elnora (Feighner) Jones. He married Joyce Wilson on October 22nd, 1983, and together they shared 42 beautiful years of marriage.
After graduating as part of the first class of Kentwood High School, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech University. From there, he demonstrated loyalty and commitment through a 47-year long career as a mechanical engineer with Delphi Automotive, before retiring in 2017.
A proud Eagle Scout, DJ exemplified honesty, integrity, and devotion. He was truly a man of strength, intellect, and quiet kindness- a gentle giant in every sense. But more than anything, DJ was a man who gave. He gave his time, his wisdom, his help, his heartfelt hugs, and his love, generously and without condition.
A brilliant engineer by profession and a lifelong student of precision, DJ approached life much like he approached his work: thoughtfully, thoroughly, and always with care. He had a gift for doing things “just right,” whether fixing a faucet or planning a cross-country ski trip. Yet beneath that methodical mind beat the heart of a big kid- playful, adventurous, and full of life. He found joy in the outdoors: downhill skiing, camping, sailing, kayaking, biking, photography, and making maple syrup in the Upper Peninsula. He was also an active member of the Saginaw Snow Drifters and the Saginaw Steering Gear Salaried Alumni Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Jones; his loving children, Matthew (Eve Brusie) Jones and Jessica (Tristan Stewart) Jones; his adored grandchildren, Ernest and Otto Jones, and Jack and Wyatt Stewart; and his dear sisters, Marilyn (Scott) Sygrove and Roberta (Colin) Cline.
A Celebration of Life for DJ will take place on Sunday, September 21st, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with Memory Sharing at 2:00 p.m., at Apple Mountain, 4519 N. River Rd., Freeland, MI 48623, where we will gather to honor his memory, share stories, and reflect on the many ways he touched our lives.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to The Center of Hope Food Pantry, 723 Emerson Street, Saginaw, MI 48607.
