Obituary
Nancy Jean Hainsey, age 89, of Saginaw, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Saturday, February 27, 2021. The daughter of Charles and Jean (Abott) Hainsey, Nancy was born on May 4, 1931, in Saginaw, Michigan.
Nancy enjoyed a lifelong career teaching English at Douglas MacArthur High School, Heritage High School, and Mackinaw Middle School. She was an advocate of people helping those around them which led her to start peer to peer counseling at Heritage. Nancy believed strongly in community activism. She was a founding member and Vice President of the Southwest Saginaw Neighborhood Association, was part of the League of Women Voters, organized high school reunions, implemented a community policing program, and won a Beautification Award from Governor Jennifer Granholm in recognition of her dedication to improving and maintaining her neighborhood. Nancy was a longtime member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church of Midland, where she gave of her time and talent in their kitchen helping with hospitality and as an accomplished piano and organ player. She also made time to enjoy many hobbies, including gardening, swimming, golf, tennis, traveling, and playing bridge and euchre.
Nancy is survived by her children, Barbara Keene, Karen Keene Wilder, Angela (Kevin) Trepanier, and Joseph Tutera; grandchildren, Christal Schoen, Melissa Schoen, Lindsey (Mike) Mortier, Alexandra Trepanier, and Amber Trepanier; five great-grandchildren; two cousins, MaryLou (Ernie) Nagy and Marti (Ron) DeLong. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Molly Erin Keene Schoen, her parents, and her stepfather, Albert Nitz.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
