Obituary
Thomas “Tom” Walter Najawicz, age 90, of Saginaw, entered into eternal life on Monday, May 31, 2021, at home surrounded by family.
Tom was born on April 15, 1931, to Victor and Lorraine (Zacharias) Najawicz in Saginaw. He graduated from Saginaw High School. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army for three years as an Aviation Engineer. He married Phyllis Erford on August 2, 1986. Tom started his apprenticeship in Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 85 on August 23, 1955. He eventually started and owned Najawicz Plumbing and Heating for over 45 years. Tom was a volunteer in his community, including serving meals at Old Town Outreach, delivering Meals on Wheels, installing plumbing for Habitat for Humanity, mentoring for READ, and Prayer Partner for students at Peace Lutheran School. He and his golf team raised the most amount of money 10 years in a row for the Rescue Mission Golf Outing and, in 2018, received the Good Samaritan Award from the Saginaw Rescue Mission. Tom enjoyed time spent with friends in Bible Study groups and golfing through the years.
Tom is survived by his wife, Phyllis Najawicz; sons, Anthony “Tony” (Linda) Najawicz, Steve (Patricia Sue) Najawicz, and Peter (Julie) Najawicz; grandchildren, Nicholas Najawicz, Stephanie (John) Murin, Jennifer (fiancé Ruben Garcia, Jr.) Najawicz, Janis (Ryan) Neiderquill, Olivia Najawicz, and Lily Najawicz; great-grandchildren, Austin Neiderquill, Bryce Stevenson, and Damon Neiderquill; great-great grandson, Rowan Neiderquill; and cousin, Brent (Linda) Poelke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife and mother of his children, Nila Najawicz; and his mother and father-in-law, Esther and Amzy Erford.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Visitation will continue at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602, on Friday, June 4, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Vicar Henry Pahlkotter will officiate. Entombment will take place at Chapel Hill Mausoleum, Freeland, Michigan.
Memorials in honor of Tom may be made to Peace Lutheran Church and School, care of the church.
