Rose Theresa Schwind, age 95, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Maplewoods Manor in Clio.
She was born on January 17, 1926, to Albert and Edith (Schlachter) Wendling, in Maple Grove, Michigan.
Rose married George Schwind of Merrill on October 11, 1947. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1981.
She was a lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Rose took part in many organizations of the church, such as volunteering for funeral luncheons and the food pantry. She was also a lifetime member of the League of Catholic Women and the Altar Society. She enjoyed listening to the Detroit Tigers and helped her husband George coach girl's softball for many years. Rose was a caregiver for many friends and family members throughout the years.
She was a great homemaker and excelled in cake making and decorating; so much so that family and friends would hire her to bake cakes for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or any celebration. She also previously worked at Kent's Drug Store restaurant and was a custodian for SS. Peter and Paul Catholic High School.
Rose is survived by her children, John (Chris) Schwind, Vera (Richard) Stevens, Margaret Simmons, and George (Donna) Schwind; grandchildren, Andy Schwind, Zachary (Miranda) Schwind, Erin (Kris) Baldwin, Seth (Whitney) Schwind, Patrick Miller, Alex (Melissa) Miller, David Stevens, Angela Stevens, Desiree Infante, Brandon (Millie) Stevens, Grant (Cathy) Simmons, Dwane Simmons, Sylvia (Ron) Bolton, Cheryl (Chris Sakon) Simmons, Stacie (Dennis) Markey, Lisa Watkins, and Billy (Chelsea) Schwind; twenty seven-great grandchildren with two more on the way; and her sister, Dorothy (LaVerne) Henige.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Schwind in 1981; her grandchildren, Holly M. Schwind and Rose M. Simmons; siblings, Florence (Walter) Gross, Cornelius (Louise) Wendling, Clair (Lucila) Wendling, James (Neoma) Wendling, Ernie (Melvia) Wendling, Harvey (Delores) Wendling, Kathryn (Ed) Sawick, Helen (Arthur) Kneiper, Bertella (Charles) Birchmeier, and Alfred (Ernestine) Wendling.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 15, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until time of Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48602.
Visitation will continue Friday, July 16, 2021, from 10:00 a.m., until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Parish, site SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48638. Burial will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery following mass.
Memorials in honor of Rose may be made to Saginaw County Commission on Aging, 2355 Schust Road, Saginaw, MI 48603.
