Obituary
Lou Ann Jakes, of Saginaw Township, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Wellspring Assisted Living in Saginaw Township, at the age of 86 years.
The daughter of the late Elmer and Edna Schallhorn, Lou Ann was born July 31, 1935, in Saginaw, Michigan. She married James Jakes on February 25, 1956. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2018.
Lou Ann worked as the secretary at Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw for many years. Lou Ann and Jim loved traveling and enjoyed 18 cruises together. Lou Ann sang for many years in the Peace Lutheran Church Choir. She also enjoyed traveling with Jim to Dixieland Jazz festivals, especially those featuring their favorite: The New Reformation Band. She also enjoyed gardening, bowling, and watching her grandchildren play sports.
Lou Ann is survived by her children, David and Kathleen Jakes of Hillsdale, Michigan, and Lori and Earl Fink of Ennis, Montana; grandchildren, Dr. James Warren Jakes II and Benjamin Jakes; 6 nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara (Glen) Martens. In addition to her parents, Lou Ann was preceded in death by her brother, and sister-in-law Warren and Donna Schallhorn.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48602. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Avenue, Saginaw, Michigan 48602. Pastor Erik Schmidt will officiate. Interment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw.
Memorials in honor of Lou Ann may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, care of the church.

When Emily & I first arrived in Saginaw in 1983, Lou Ann was the main secretary at Peace. She quickly became a dear friend to us over many years. At our age, the pleasure of getting to see her & Jim again is not that far off. Praise God! -- Pastor Ed Kast

I had the privilege of working with Lou Ann in the church office for approximately 10 years. She was a wonderful person to work for, always so caring and thoughtful!
We still kept in touch after moving to Higgins Lake. I always looked forward to receiving her Christmas letter along with her card and she never forgot my birthday either.
She will be deeply missed, but now she is with Jim praising God and singing!! Mary Jane Hartman

Very sad to see this. My family lived across the street from the Jakes for a few years. We had 2 little girls and Lou Ann was always dropping by cookies and little gifts. I enjoyed receiving their Christmas letter each year and they were a role model on how to be retired. My best to her family. Terri Spence

Lou Ann was one of my favorite Cousins and Yoko and I will miss her and her infectious smile and laughter a lot in the days, weeks, and years to come!!
