Obituary
Carol A. Murphy, age 87, of Saginaw, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, with family by her side. The daughter of Marion (Sonsmith) and Joseph Brasseur, Carol was born February 3, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Lawrence R. Murphy on September 19, 1959, at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2015.
Carol graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, Delta College, and St. Joseph's College in Windham, Maine. A registered nurse for most of her life, Carol was actively involved in many professional organizations, including St. Mary's Medical Center Alumni Association, Michigan Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, and the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates. Carol was also a longtime parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and most recently, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
Carol is survived by her children, Susan Murphy and John (Mary) Murphy; grandchildren, Sara (Nathan) Cupp, and Nicole (Alan) Avila; great grandchildren, Walker Murphy, Seth Cupp, Landon Avila, McKenna Avila, Ryan Murphy, and Jeffery Cupp; sister, Sharon Ciesla.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lawrence Murphy; son, Patrick Murphy; grandson, John Murphy; siblings, Mary Katherine Jurek and Luretta LaLonde.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State Street, Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Saginaw.
