Joan Marx, the beautiful love of all of our lives, passed away on Monday June 5, 2023, at the age of 89. This wonderful mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt will be missed by all who knew her and her hardy laugh. When she walked into a room she brought light and never darkness. Joan worked as a bank teller and trainer with 2nd National Bank for 20 years. She was a talented painter, often giving her art as gifts. She loved to read, watch her beloved Detroit Tigers and Hallmark movies, plays games and cards. Joan treasured her family, especially time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her loving children, Connie (John) Gottschalk and James “Jim” (Luann) Marx; grandchildren, Kayla (Dwayne) Williams, Amy (Josh) Bustamante, Jason (Marianna) Marx, Lindsey (Juan) Lopez, and Erica (Tim) Hendren; great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Madison, and Dylan Bustamante, Michael and Jacob Marx, Evan and Austin Lopez, and baby boy Hendren, due in September; siblings, Ernie (Barb) Hare and Don (Rita) Hare; sister-in-law, Arlene Hare; brother-in-law, that she loved like a son Keith
(Cheryl) Marx; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her grandson, John “Johnny” Gottschalk; her parents; and siblings, Donna (Don) Prange, Harry Hare, and Marv (Nancy) Hare.

When I briefly saw Joan's name on the obituary telecast, I knew who she was immediately. The face may be different from that of 44 years ago, but her smile and laughter brought a memory back to me. You see, I was a young 17 year old new employee of Second National Bank of Bay City and wasn't old enough to be bonded. So, I was sent to Teller School in the basement of the Atwater Branch in Saginaw. I was the first Bay City employee to be instructed by Joan. She taught me so much and to this day, I still use many of her teachings. I worked many years in Bay City and completed my 18th year at the main office in Saginaw. It amazes me that today's financial employees don't know how to "teller" correctly. If they only had Joan as their teacher....... Jami Wilhelm. (Bay City)

I worked with Joan at Second National in Human Resources when she was not out in the branches teaching. She was such a wonderful caring person. The bank was lucky to have her as an employee.
