Obituary
Raymond “Ray” Frederick Seelye, age 89, of Saginaw, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Symphony of Tri-Cities, in Bay City.
He was born on January 31, 1934, to Lloyd and Mae Seelye in Montrose, Michigan.
Ray married Joanne Davenport on November 30, 1957, in Grand Rapids. He proudly served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He graduated from Ferris Institute in 1963 with a Bachelors Degree in Science. He began his teaching career at Millington Public Schools, where he worked for two years before transferring to Saginaw Public Schools. Ray then worked for Saginaw Public Schools from 1965 until his retirement in 1996. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher and led many small group Bible studies. Ray enjoyed traveling the country, gardening and watching NASCAR. His most treasured time spent was with his family, and was proud to be a “girl dad” before it was popular.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife Joanne Seelye; daughters, Lisa Seelye and Dawn (Tim) Backlund; step granddaughter, Trista Backlund; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sibilngs, Naomi Bolin, Carroll Seelye, Vivian Seelye, Ronald Seelye, Duane F. Seelye, Elizabeth Thompson, Edwin Seelye and Willard Seelye.
Memorial Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602, with military honors. The Rev. Erik Schmidt will officiate. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Comstock Park, Michigan at a later date.
Memorials in honor of Ray may be made to Peace Foundation's General Fund, care of the church.
