Obituary
Carol “Dolly" Joan Johnson, age 85, of Saginaw, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024,
at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, Michigan. She was born on February 27, 1939, to
Lewis and Alleyne (nee Aldrich) Tinglan in Vassar, Michigan.
Carol was proud to have grown up on the family farm in Vassar, Michigan. She
graduated second in her class from Vassar High School in 1957, a fact she was happy
to share. Carol then went on to Saginaw Valley State University, graduating with a
degree in English and Literature. She worked at Second National Bank for many years
in downtown Saginaw. Carol had a passion for reading and writing and was lovingly
known by her family as the grammar police. She enjoyed drinking coffee, a cold beer,
and caring for the neighborhood cats. Having strong opinions on politics, Carol watched
MSNBC and was always keenly aware of current affairs. Later in life, she treasured time
spent taking her grandchildren to the Court Street Theatre, having lunch with her best
friends at Fuzzy's, and was humbled to serve as foster grandparent for the Saginaw
Public School system. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Carol is survived by her loving children, Steve (Mary Ellen) Johnson, Connie Johnson,
and Melissa Hayes; beloved grandchildren, Stephanie (Lafe) King, Andrew (Kristina)
Kraszewski, Emily Kraszewski, Kevin (Caitlyn Jacobs) Hayes, Jalen Hayes, Lauryn
Hayes, DeShawn Hayes and Travon Hayes; several great grandchildren, including
Evelyn Kraszewski; her sister, Linda (George) Jupin; sister-in-law, Kathy Tinglan; many
nieces, nephews, cousins, and a dear friend, Edith “Bunny” Gilbert. She was preceded
in death by her brothers, Donald Tinglan and David Tinglan; niece, Alyssa Jupin; and
her former husband and friend, Gerald Johnson.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue Friday, June 14, 2024. from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral
Service at 11:00 a.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue,
Saginaw, Michigan, 48602.
