Obituary
Joanne Frieda Seelye, age 89, of Saginaw, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Wellspring Senior Living in Saginaw, Michigan. She was born on January 12, 1935, to Philip and Frieda (Ruehs) Davenport in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Joanne graduated from Butterworth Nursing School. She then worked at Big Rapids Hospital and eventually St. Luke's Hospital in Saginaw. She retired from her career at Heritage Family Practice Saginaw. Joanne married Raymond “Ray” Seelye on November 30, 1957, in Grand Rapids. He preceded her in death in August of 2023, after 66 years of marriage. Joanne enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, shopping, and was always up for antiquing. One of her greatest joys was staying involved with her children's activities. She was an avid volunteer, giving her time to St. Luke's Hospital, the Rescue Mission, and at Peace Lutheran Church and School with the school board, ladies guild, and as a small group Bible study group leader. She was an excellent baker known for her delicious blueberry pie. Joanne will be remembered as a dedicated caregiver and for her loving kindness.
Joanne is survived by her daughters, Lisa Seelye and Dawn (Tim) Backlund; step granddaughter, Trista Backlund; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Henry Davenport and Clyde Davenport, M.D.
Memorial Visitation will take place on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Visitation will continue at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602, on June 18, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Erik Schmidt will officiate. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Comstock Park, Michigan at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Joanne may be made to Peace Lutheran Ministries, care of the church.
