Obituary

Sarah Marie Shepherd, age 60, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Sarah was born on January 1, 1964, to William and Mary Shepherd in Midland, Michigan.
Sarah attended St. Mary's High School and graduated from Arthur Hill High School. In her late teens and early twenties, she spent time waitressing in the heart of Saginaw at the Fordney Hotel where she met her former husband, Duane Miller, who is the father of her first two children, Emily and Jacob Miller. Sarah was also a waitress at The Schuch Hotel and bartended at J.B. Meinberg's in Saginaw's Old Town. She has one child, Tessa Poag, from her partnership with Dan Poag. She has a son, William Shepherd, from her partnership with Tom Howley who preceded Sarah in death.
Through her organizational skills and interest in law, Sarah enjoyed many years working at law firms in the Saginaw area.
Throughout her life, her favorite place to be was the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She spent happy days there with family including her cousins, the Doyles and guests. Sarah was always a cat lover and in her last year her last surviving cats, Louciouse and Don Vito, became her compadres.
Sarah is survived by her six siblings, William (the late Mona) Shepherd, Christine (Terra) Shepherd, Rosemary (John) Shepherd, Peggy (Harry) Stuart, Paul Shepherd, Patricia (Bob) Zummer; her four children, Emily Miller, Jacob (Danielle) Miller, Tessa (Ben) Poag, and William Shepherd; her grandchildren, Guinevere and George Miller; one uncle, Judge Paul Clulo (Carol), along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sarah's family wishes to thank Brian's House for the loving care that they provided for Sarah in the last months of her life.
There will be a celebration of her life at a future date.

So sorry to hear of Sarah's passing. Good memories of Rosemary, Peggy, and Sarah at Holy Rosary Elementary and St. Mary's High School. Surprised to learn I worked with two of her sons not too long ago. Jake, Will, and Danielle, you have my deepest sympathy and are in my prayers. Vicky Godwin

Cousin sarah was such a good friend to me in my childhood teen years! We reconnected over recent years on my return trips to Michigan. She was a charmer and precocious from a young age. With all those older siblings to observe smile; So smart and worldly. Always so kind to me. I will miss her and hope her memory gives her family comfort. She was loved.
