Mary Ann Walsh Carroll (nee Ciolek)

Mary Ann Walsh Carroll (nee Ciolek) of Kingwood, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the age of 77 following a long illness. Mary Ann was born on July 13, 1941, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Joseph and Mary Ciolek (nee Szok), both of whom were children of Polish immigrants. After graduating from SS. Peter and Paul High School in Saginaw, Mary Ann married and began raising a family of four children. She lived in Michigan for the first 30 years of her life, and resided in the Houston area since 1976. Mary Ann was active in Charismatic and Rosary Prayer groups, the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelite (OCDS) and was also a Eucharistic minister. Mary Ann was faithful, free-spirited, strong-willed, and resilient. She loved her Catholic faith, family, and friends. Growing up in Michigan, she enjoyed living on a family farm in the summers where she became very fond of animals. In her later years, Mary Ann loved being surrounded by her animals (dogs, cats, chickens, horses, and fish), angels, antiques, and all things wicker. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 19 years, Donald Carroll; sister, Susan Ciolek of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and brother Richard (Mercedes) Ciolek of Saginaw, Michigan. Her surviving children from her former marriage to Robert Walsh are son Patrick (Sharon) Walsh of Herdon, Virginia; daughters, Annette Johnson of Ochopee, Florida and Angela (Joe) Martinez of Magnolia, Texas; and son-in-law Gene Kirsch of Kingwood, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Katherine, Nicole, and Kimberly Kirsch, Brandon and Logan Martinez, and Alex and Trent Binford-Walsh, and many other relatives and friends who were a comfort to Mary Ann. Her loving canine companion, Ruby, has a new home and role as a memory care companion at Reunion Court in Kingwood, a perfect fit that Mary Ann would have loved. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Joseph and James Ciolek, and her daughter Kristine Kirsch. Memorial visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m., until the time of Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Helen Catholic Church site, 2415 N. Charles Street, Saginaw, MI 48602. Rev. Fr. Ronald Wagner will officiate. Committal will take place at the foot of her grandmother, “Busia” Szok’s grave, at Mt.
