Josephine "Jo" Louise Petersen

Josephine “Jo” Louise Petersen, age 92, of Saginaw, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at home with family by her side. The daughter of George and Marcella (Darby) Schuch, Jo was born January 4, 1930, in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Bernard Petersen in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1969. Jo owned and operated Petersen Catering in Saginaw for many years. Her motto in business and in life was, “You do what you can, when you can.” She was an avid golfer and swimmer, staying active nearly up to her death. Jo loved to travel and was always up for a game of cards. She took pride in caring for her yard and enjoyed her flowers. She was also a wonderful cook and baker, seamstress and quilter. Of all the things Jo loved, she cherished her family and grandchildren the most. She will be remembered as an incredibly loving, giving, and selfless person. Jo is survived by her beloved children, Connie (Paul) Garstecki, Larry (Shelley) Petersen, Ruth (Bill) List, Andy (Debbie) Petersen, Pam (Randy) Lunning, Rita (Ron) Stachowiak, Ellen Petersen, David (Carol) Petersen, and Angie Petersen; 27 loving grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; siblings, Jean Lemmer and Pat Bond; sisters-in-law, Marge Schuch and Jeanette Schuch; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Petersen; their son, Steven Petersen; her parents; and her siblings, Jack Schuch, Ann (Jack) Kueffner, Marilyn (Aubert) Roberts, Marcella (Wendell) Nehmer, Leo Schuch, Lawrence Schuch, and Gerald Schuch. Jo’s family wishes to thank their dear family friend, Lauren Lunning, for her dedicated and loving care for Jo. Visitation will take place Friday, March 18, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the Rosary being said at 6:00 p.m. at Fischer Family Funeral Home, 504 N. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Visitation will continue on Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., at St. Helen Catholic Church Site of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, 2445 N. Charles Street., Saginaw, MI 48602. Rev. Fr. William Rutkowski will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Saginaw.
